
The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected cattle rustlers, identified as Abu Muhammed and Aliu Bello, for their involvement in the theft of 26 cows valued at ₦6,250,000.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the arrest followed a swift response to a report received at the Iresadu Division.
DSP Olayinka noted that the operation highlights the effectiveness of proactive policing, intelligence-led investigations, and collaboration with community security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were attempting to conceal stolen cattle when they were intercepted at Odojaye via Aganyan, Iresadu. During the operation, twenty-six stolen cows, estimated at ₦6,250,000, were successfully recovered, reflecting the tangible results of coordinated police and community efforts in protecting property and livelihoods.
“Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen livestock, demonstrating the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement said.
The spokesperson disclosed that, upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the theft and provided details about the criminal network.
The Command expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his steadfast leadership and guidance, stressing that this has continued to strengthen policing across the country.
It also commended members of the public for the timely report that led to the swift intervention, as well as the cooperation of other partners, particularly non-state actors, whose support significantly enhanced the success of the operation.
DSP Olayinka stated that the operation reinforces the Command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property, decisively combat criminal activities, and maintain law and order.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing investigations and enhance community safety, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting the residents of Oyo State and ensuring a secure environment for all.
