Tinubu Launches ‘Power Force’ to Train 5,000 Meter Installers, Reserves Quota for Corps Members

President Bola Tinubu has announced the launch of The Power Force under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) to train 5,000 young Nigerians as meter installers and technicians.
President Tinubu made the announcement on Thursday, noting that the initiative is aimed at closing Nigeria’s metering gap, ending estimated billing, protecting consumers, and strengthening the electricity market.
“This programme is about jobs, skills, and dignity. It will equip young Nigerians with practical technical skills and connect them to real work in a sector that touches every home, every business, and every community in our country,” he said.
The President stated that the opportunity will be open to eligible Nigerians who have completed their secondary school education, with a dedicated quota reserved for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Tinubu explained that metering is central to making power more available to Nigerians, stressing that when homes and businesses are properly metered, consumers can pay only for the electricity they actually use.
He also argued that when electricity distribution companies collect revenue more transparently and fairly, they are better able to reduce losses, maintain infrastructure, expand connections, and invest in better service.
“This is how we build a power sector that is fairer to consumers, stronger for investors, and better able to deliver reliable electricity to the Nigerian people,” he stated.
Tinubu directed the PMI to work with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), and all relevant stakeholders to commence the programme within the next 30 days.
He further urged eligible young Nigerians to apply through pmi.naptin.gov.ng, adding that the application portal will open on July 4, 2026.
