The 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not seek re-election in 2027 if he is indeed a smart politician.
Baba-Ahmed made the remark on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme on Friday.
“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel if he is that smart politician that he turns out to be,” he said, quipping that President Tinubu is a smart politician who began fielding presidential candidates in 2007, ultimately “culminating in his electoral heist in 2023.”
“He skipped 2007 and jokingly made Atiku candidate, made Ribadu and somebody else in 2011, made Buhari in 2015, Buhari won, and then skipped 2019, and they stole 2023. If he is that smart, everything is there for him that he’s going to lose 2027,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
He affirmed that two possible candidates could defeat the President in 2027, describing them as the “nemesis of Tinubu”.
The politician noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has proven to be a party that lies – and recounted the performance of former President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, saying that “Buhari did not develop Nigeria, provide security or fight corruption. Neither will Tinubu ever do this.”
He maintained that APC would lose the 2027 election, emphasising that Nigeria will practice democracy for the first time in 2027 as Nigerians will come out in their numbers to vote, bringing an end to bad leadership in the country.
“I see APC losing this election. I see Nigerians somehow uniting, listening to what someone like me is saying that if you cannot practice this, democracy is not for you, and then Nigerians will decide to come out and practice democracy for the first time, and then bad leadership will begin to have no hiding place in Nigeria.
“And then gradually, we will begin to heal our land, recover, unite and take each other as fellow Nigerians, brothers and sisters. Their time is up,” he added.
