Prominent thespian, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni has condemned the ‘justification’ of crime by some Nigerians following the killing of 16 Northern travellers in Uromi, Edo State few days ago.
The Northern States Governors Forum and other prominent leaders across the region have reacted to the tragic incident and urged Edo Governor, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, to commence a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to book.
However, netizens have criticised the Northerners, stating that they are only vocal because of the ‘involvement of their people’.
They mentioned that the Northerners don’t condemn the acts of herdsmen when they ‘invade’ the farmlands of people from other states, among other things.
Reacting to the development on Monday, the actor explained that the justification of any sort of crime is an approval for the perpetrators to keep indulging in them.
He urged the government to beef up security for the safety of all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, among others.
His words: “Dearest Nigerians, Please, we must resist the urge to defend evil of any kind. Crime is Crime! Whenever we justify crime, we open the door for criminals to keep committing crime. We cannot be counting scores with the lives of Nigerians while those that are responsible for safeguarding the lives of the people continue to play politics.
“The mobbing and killing of the 16 northern hunters in Edo State is evil just as any previous attack on the lives of Edo people is also evil. The killing or destruction of lives and properties of any Nigerian in any state is evil!”
The comedian noted that it is the duty of every Nigerian to speak against evil at all times, “whether it affects us or not, lest we lose our humanity”.
“The government must live up to their responsibilities and provide adequate security measures to ensure that the life of every Nigerian is safeguarded irrespective of tribe, ethnicity, religion or social status,” he remarked.
He further said that no one life is more important than the other.
