
The Borno State Police Command has arrested 5 suspects for vandalising and carting away railway tracks in the state.
The apprehended suspects are Abba Modu Shuwa, 25; Mustapha Bura, 25; Ali Malami, 17; Mustapha Abba, 27; and Bahisa Abubakar, 25.
While the quartet of Shuwa, Bura, Malami and Abba are from Benisheik town, Abubakar hails from Bama town in Borno.
This is according to a statement issued by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Public Relations Officer of the Command on Tuesday, April 1.
“Acting on a credible information, on 29/03/2025, at about 1430HRS, a police patrol team led by the Area Commander Benisheik Area Command intercepted a group of individuals along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road in Kaga LGA, in possession of sixty-two (62) railway slippers and forty-eight (48) rail tracks worth millions of Naira.
“Investigation revealed that the suspects stole critical infrastructure and attempted smuggling it out of the state before they were accosted. Following their arrest, the stolen railway materials were recovered and taken to the Area Command,” Daso stated.
The spokesperson revealed that preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring that those involved in acts of vandalism and criminal activities are brought to justice.
