Nigeria Immigration Begins 3-day Training for Officers on e-Visa System

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Friday commenced a 3-day training for its officers on electronic visa system to improve service delivery.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap declared the training program open at the Service’s headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.

This is according to a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, AS Akinlabi.

Akinlabi noted that the training aims to adequately prepare officers for the effective take-off of the e-Visa Processing Centre and operationalisation of the National Visa Policy 2025.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Tunji-Ojo stressed the need to key into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting the importance of technology in optimising service delivery.

He emphasised that the training aligns with the administration’s broader vision of modernising Nigeria’s immigration processes to enhance national security, promote ease of travel for genuine visitors and ease of doing business.

In her remarks, Nandap expressed gratitude to the Minister for his support in driving innovation within the Service.

She explained that the training will equip NIS officers with the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise to effectively vet visa applications, carry out proper verification and security checks on persons applying for Nigeria’s Short Visit Visa through the e-Visa.
