NCJTFLCA Backs COMTUA’s Position against Lekki Call-Up System

The National Compliance Joint Task Force of Licensed Clearing Agents (NCJTFLCA) has endorsed the position of the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) against the planned enforcement of the call-up system on the Lekki axis of Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the President of NCJTFLCA, Dr. Basil Nwolisa, he aligned with the concerns raised by COMTUA’s National President, Adeyinka Aroyewun, regarding the system’s illegality, potential for extortion, and disregard for the rule of law.

“The insistence on enforcing this system, despite ongoing litigation, raises questions about the motivations behind this move. It appears to be another revenue-generating scheme for officials, rather than a genuine effort to address congestion.

“NCJTFLCA joins COMTUA in rejecting this proposal and warns that it may lead to a breakdown of law and order, as well as hardship resulting from potential truckers’ strikes. We support the planned protest alongside NARTO and PTD,” Dr. Nwolisa stated.

He urged the Lagos State Government to prioritise creating an enabling business environment and addressing the root causes of congestion, rather than burdening truckers with additional fees.
