Police Rescue 2 Human Trafficking, Abduction Victims, Arrest 3 Suspects, Recover Firearms

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the rescue of two victims of human trafficking and abduction in Enugu and Taraba States.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Friday, noting that three suspects were arrested in the process — reinforcing the NPF’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

“On 30th July 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, Raymond Sunday Wonna, aged 30, and rescued two (2) young female victims identified as Miracle Ogar (aged 18) and Angela Kingsley (aged 16). Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were deceitfully lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the pretext of securing job opportunities in Ghana.

“Without the knowledge or consent of their parents, the suspect, who claimed to be a casual labourer, intended to transport them to work in a restaurant allegedly owned by his ‘baby mama’ in Ghana. Further findings indicate that while lodging the victims in a hotel pending departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them,” the statement reads in part.

DCP Adejobi revealed that the swift intervention of the operatives not only thwarted the illicit journey but also ensured the victims were safely returned to their families.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.

Similarly, operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence in collaboration with local security outfits, on August 13, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers identified as Yahaya Umar (20) and Mohammed Umar (47), in possession of an AK-47 rifle.

The spokesperson stated that the suspects confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and dismantle their operational network.

Speaking on the successes recorded, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift action.

IGP Egbetokun assured citizens of the Force’s unrelenting commitment to public safety and ordered a meticulous and speedy investigation to ensure the prosecution of all culprits.

The statement added: “The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens from criminal elements operating within and across borders. These recent accomplishments emphasise the significance of community vigilance, intelligence-led operations, and swift law enforcement measures.”
