
The Kebbi State Police Command has neutralised three suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition in the Shanga area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the police’s intensified patrols around Shanga and adjoining communities are yielding positive results.
“On the 24th August, 2025 at about 0230hrs, intelligence received revealed that a gang of suspected kidnappers was sighted in the nearby forest along Tungargiwa/Saminaka road, planning on how to kidnap the commuters flying the road.
“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Shanga, swiftly mobilized a combined team of Policemen and vigilantes and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they engaged the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun duel. As a result, three suspected kidnappers were neutralized, one AK47 rifle, one magazine and seven live ammunition were also recovered from them,” CSP Abubakar stated.
Speaking on the development, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the Shanga DPO and his team for their swift and courageous response.
CP Sani said that the successful operation demonstrates the Command’s determination to secure the state against violent crimes.
He also appreciated the local communities for promptly sharing intelligence, affirming that without their support, police operations would not succeed.
The CP reiterated that the Command has intensified patrols around Shanga and surrounding communities to prevent the incursion of criminal elements, affirming that efforts are already yielding positive results.
He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between the police and the public, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
He further explained that crime prevention remains the best strategy in safeguarding the lives and property of Kebbi residents.
