The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to honour the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, PhD for his groundbreaking reforms and revolutionary leadership of the service since he assumed office.
The award presentation, which is the highpoint of the 2025 AMJON Conference, comes up on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa GRA, Lagos.
AMJON identified Adeniyi as the most impactful Chief Executive Officer in the nation’s maritime industry, under whose leadership the NCS has attained unprecedented prominence within and outside the country, culminating in his emergence as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.
Among the great strides listed for Adeniyi’s honour was his ability to lead the service into an era of modernisation through the full deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) also known as B’Odogwu with which the service has collected newsworthy amounts as revenue across various customs formations nationwide while fast overcoming its teething challenges.
According to AMJON’s Acting President, Vera Osokpo, Dr Adeniyi’s robust stakeholder engagement, promotion of good relationship has resulted in industrial harmony and contributed immensely to the success associated with the nation’s marine and blue economy sector with seamless trade facilitation and contributing to making Nigeria a viable destination for investments.
Also, being honoured is the NCS spokesman, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, PhD.
Osokpo described Maiwada as a Public Relations and Crises Communications expert who has distinguished himself and deploys modern tools to disseminate information about the service to its audience.
She portrayed the Customs Spokesman as number one in the use of social media in providing customs news content for reporters from the service headquarters and customs formations nationwide.
According to her, AC Maiwada’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) intuitive and interactive platforms, generating audio visual information with a team of young communicators has earned the service the honour of being Nigeria’s most vibrant in public information dissemination.
The Customs’ usage of digital tools through its Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN), verified social media accounts and its deployment of multimedia facilities for public events have proven to be second to none in the nation’s maritime space.
AMJON will also be honouring other individuals, Customs Commands and organisations for their various contributions towards the growth of the maritime industry at the ceremony.
