‘Your Visionary Leadership Has Led to Surpassed Revenue Targets’, President Tinubu Hails CGC Adeniyi at 60

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his 60th birthday, stating that his visionary leadership has yielded significant results, including the consistent surpassing of revenue targets and improved trade partnerships with other countries and institutions.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu lauded CGC Adeniyi on the milestone, describing it as one marked by dedicated service to the nation and landmark reforms since he assumed leadership, which have repositioned the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

He acknowledged the efforts of Dr Adeniyi in transforming the NCS into a globally competitive and relevant institution, a development that culminated in his remarkable recognition and election as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) in June 2025.

The President commended the Comptroller-General for projecting Nigeria and Africa on the global stage through inclusive, practical, and charismatic leadership at the WCO, and rallying of Customs Administrations and critical stakeholders for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) through the C-PACT platform.

He highlighted the integration of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in Nigeria, supported by the WCO, to improve cargo clearance times at the ports, enhance revenue performance, and strengthen partnerships with traders, and the adoption of WCO SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade.

President Tinubu further pointed out the internal reforms, including the streamlining of operations through automation and digitisation, upskilling and training of officers, high level diplomacy, and the adoption of global best practices, all of which have resulted in commendable improvements in trade facilitation and revenue collections.

“President Tinubu acknowledges the visionary leadership of the Customs boss that has resulted in better community relations, steady surpassing of revenue targets, enhanced trade partnership with countries and multilateral institutions, and improved security around the borders,” the statement said.

It added: “As the Customs boss turns 60, the President prays that the Almighty God will grant him more strength, good health, and wisdom to keep serving the nation.”
