The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Francis Bunu has been honoured with an award by Noble Landmark Africa Media Magazine in recognition of his contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development.
The award, presented in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, was conferred on Comrade Bunu for what the publishers described as his “impactful leadership” and remarkable achievements within a short period at the helm of the maritime labour union.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to ThelensNG by MWUN’s Head of Media, Comrade John Ikemefuna on Wednesday.
The management of Noble Magazine described the MWUN President-General as one of the foremost labour leaders in the country, noting that his leadership has brought innovation, clarity of purpose and renewed direction to the maritime sector and the wider labour movement.
According to the publishers, Comrade Bunu’s tenure has been marked by distinct leadership acumen, practical unionism and visible reforms that have positively impacted the industry. They noted that his rise from the rank and file of the union to its highest office reflects years of consistent labour activism rooted in action rather than rhetoric.
The media organisation further stated that the achievements recorded under Comrade Bunu’s leadership in such a short time represent a “tall feat of progress” for the maritime industry and organised labour in Nigeria, making him a deserving recipient of the Impactful Leadership Award.
Although unavoidably absent at the award presentation, the MWUN President-General expressed appreciation to the publishers through the Union’s Secretary-General, Comrade Oniha Erazua, who received the plaque on his behalf.
Comrade Bunu thanked Noble Landmark Africa Media Magazine for recognising his efforts and described the honour as well-deserved and deeply appreciated.
The leadership of MWUN also commended the publishers for what they described as their commitment to truth and professionalism, urging them to sustain their role in promoting excellence across sectors.
