Bolivia in Turmoil as Protesters Demand President’s Resignation Amid Deadly Clashes

Riot police have clashed with protesters in La Paz as thousands marched, demanding the resignation of Bolivia’s centre-right President Rodrigo Paz, amid deepening anger over a severe economic crisis.
The confrontation erupted during a mass workers’ protest in the capital, where miners attempted to reach the Government Palace before being pushed back with tear gas. Protesters responded by throwing stones and explosives, though authorities reported no immediate arrests or injuries.
The unrest comes as Bolivia faces widespread roadblocks that have isolated La Paz for over two weeks, worsening shortages of food, fuel and medicines. Demonstrators, including peasants, miners, workers and teachers, accuse the government of failing to address the country’s worst economic crisis in 40 years.
A protester reportedly died on Saturday after falling into a ditch during earlier clashes. At least 28 roadblocks remain active nationwide, according to authorities.
President Paz, in office for just six months, continues to face mounting pressure as rival political marches converge on the capital, deepening national tensions.
