Russian Drone, Missile Strikes Kill Four in Northern Ukraine

By Sherif Lawal

At least four people have been killed in northern Ukraine following a wave of Russian missile and drone strikes, according to Kyiv, as fears grow over a possible renewed offensive along the country’s northern border.

Regional authorities in Chernihiv said a Russian ballistic missile struck the centre of Pryluky, about 150 kilometres east of Kyiv, damaging a shopping mall and supermarket. Officials confirmed two deaths and at least 17 injuries, including a 14-year-old child. Images shared by the regional governor showed shattered storefronts and buildings with blown-out windows.

In a separate attack in the northeastern Sumy region, two men aged 52 and 58 were killed when drones hit a village near the Russian border. Four other people were wounded, with officials reporting damage to civilian infrastructure in Glukhiv.

The strikes come as President Volodymyr Zelensky warns of potential new attacks from the north, ordering reinforcements along border areas. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of preparing fresh offensives via Belarus, allegations Moscow denies.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, its forces entered through multiple northern routes, including Chernihiv and Sumy, regions that have remained under sustained attack since Ukrainian troops pushed them back in the early weeks of the war.
