Maritime Training, Innovation in Focus as Stakeholders Discuss Future-Ready Workforce in Lagos
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime sector are set to converge in Lagos to examine the role of innovation and modern training in developing a future-ready workforce capable of responding to the changing demands of the industry.
The discussions will centre on emerging trends in maritime training, digital transformation, technological innovation, safety and security, and human capacity development, with particular attention to preparing Nigerian maritime professionals for opportunities in the global Blue Economy.
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), organisers, said the 2026 Maritime Training Summit and Awards would hold on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, under the theme, “The Power of Innovation in a Future-Ready Maritime Training Agenda.”
Expected participants include NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, security agencies, industry experts and other stakeholders.
The summit is expected to provide a platform for regulators, industry operators, policymakers, maritime professionals, academics, security agencies and the media to exchange ideas on strengthening the capacity of Nigeria’s maritime workforce.
Keynote presentations, panel discussions and strategic engagements are scheduled to feature at the event, with participants expected to consider practical approaches to improving maritime training and integrating innovation and technology into workforce development.
The association said the quality of Nigeria’s human resources would remain critical to the competitiveness of the maritime industry, stressing the need for institutions and operators to continually adapt to technological developments and changing industry requirements.
It added that the summit would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to develop practical strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s maritime workforce and positioning the country to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the global Blue Economy.
A major highlight of the event will be the presentation of awards to individuals and organisations recognised for exceptional leadership, professionalism and contributions to the growth, safety and development of Nigeria’s maritime and related sectors.
The association said it remained committed to promoting informed discourse, professional development and constructive stakeholder engagement towards the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime industry and Blue Economy.
