The Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah has commenced the dualisation of the 43.7km Penok-Abakpa Nike-Ugwogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, with a completion timeline of 18 months.
Mr. Mbah announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday that the project will include the installation of streetlights.
“It is a promise kept, one we made in the campaign to ensure no part of the state is left behind in our pursuit of exponential economic growth. On completion, it will reduce travel time between Enugu and Nsukka to 30 minutes, making it easier for residents to live in Nsukka and work in Enugu or vice versa, and also strengthening both bonds of unity and economic potentials,” he stated.
He noted that his administration’s grassroots-based development and economic model place Nsukka zone at an advantage, stressing that the state is executing projects based on electoral wards, hence Nsukka zone with 102 wards benefits the most from the model.
Governor Mbah disclosed that the zone will end up with 102 smart schools, 102 type 2 primary healthcare centres, and more than 1,000km of roads, “since we also want to build at least 10 km of roads per ward.”
He expressed gratitude to the people of Nsukka and those in support of his vision for the state.
The governor also thanked the Igwe of Edem Ani and Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, as well as other leaders of the zone for their kind words and steadfast belief in the project.
“We are on track to building the Enugu State of our dreams – a stronger, more connected state that stands as a beacon of growth and limitless opportunities. We have only just begun,” he added.
