Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Nigeria’s 2027 election, strengthening the party’s push to challenge the ruling APC in the next national polls.
Atiku received the ADC flag in Abuja after the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary, where he defeated former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The party’s National Chairman, David Mark, presented the flag to the former vice president before party leaders and supporters at the collation centre.
According to official results, Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi polled 504,117 and Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Atiku called for unity within the party and urged his rivals to work together ahead of the 2027 campaign season.
The latest development positions the ADC as a growing opposition force as political alignments ahead of the general election continue to intensify across Nigeria.
