China Highway Horror: 13 Killed as Overloaded Minibus Slams Into Truck

By Sherif Lawal

A devastating highway collision in central China has claimed at least 13 lives after an overloaded minibus crashed into a truck on a major expressway in Henan province.

Chinese traffic police said the fatal accident happened in the early hours of Thursday near Nanyang city along the busy G40 expressway, a critical transport route linking Shanghai to northern China. Authorities confirmed that 16 people were travelling in the minibus, despite the vehicle being licensed to carry only nine passengers.

Three survivors were injured and rushed for treatment, while emergency officials launched rescue operations at the scene.

Investigators have yet to determine the exact cause of the crash, but the incident has renewed concerns over road safety and vehicle overloading in China, where highway accidents continue to raise alarm.

China’s Ministry of Public Security has deployed a special working team to investigate the tragedy and establish accountability as grieving families await answers.
