Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Five Consecutive Premier League Defeats

Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior after five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring a goal.

The West London club lost 1-0 to Newcastle, 3-0 to Everton, 3-0 to Manchester City, 1-0 to Manchester United, and 3-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Rosenior, 41, was appointed in January 2026 following the sacking of Enzo Maresca. Chelsea have now dismissed two managers this season.

“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior. On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season. This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday.

The two-time UEFA Champions League winners announced that Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as interim head coach until the end of the season, with support from the existing backroom staff, as they strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.

The club added that it will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment as it works to bring stability to the head coach position.

Chelsea currently sit 7th in the Premier League standings with 48 points after 34 games and will face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
