IMO Category ‘C’ Win: MWUN Felicitates NPA, Pledges Enhanced Maritime Sector Synergy

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has congratulated the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Nigeria’s recent election into the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category ‘C’ Council, secured through the efforts of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, gave the congratulatory remark when he led members of the Union’s Executive Council on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, at the Authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos, on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by MWUN’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, the visit also served to formally introduce the newly elected executive officers of the Union to Dr. Dantsoho and his management team.

In his remarks, Comrade Bunu stated that the visit was necessary to acquaint both parties with one another, as the Union and the Authority remain partners in progress within the maritime sector and cannot operate in isolation.

He noted that the visit provided an opportunity for the MWUN leadership to extend their felicitations to the NPA Managing Director over Nigeria’s IMO Council ‘C’ seat victory.

Bunu described the achievement as laudable and significant, stressing that it represents a bold and meaningful step towards the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime industry.

In response, Dantsoho thanked the MWUN President-General and his team for the visit and assured them of a continued collaboration and synergy across the sector.

Such cooperation, he added, would further position Nigeria’s maritime industry as a vibrant hub for activities both locally and globally.
