The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of a six-member syndicate in connection with a ₦5,750,000 SIM card and bank fraud in the state.

The arrested suspects are Mubarak Saleh (25) of Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Babangida Lawan (30) of Kabuga Quarters, Ahmad Shehu Adamu (36) of Tudun Yola Quarters, Ezra Titus (43) of Sabongari Quarters, Abubakar Abdullahi Abdul (37) of Giginyu Quarters, and Ahmad Abdullahi (26) of Kabuga Quarters — all from Kano.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Wednesday.

CSP Kiyawa revealed that the apprehension followed a complaint lodged by one Nura Abdullahi of Kabuga Quarters on October 28, 2025, who reported the theft of his MTN SIM card and the fraudulent withdrawal of ₦5,750,000 from his bank account.

“The investigation uncovered the involvement of six accomplices who conspired to deceive victims, obtain their personal details such as BVN and NIN, and use these to open fraudulent bank accounts, obtain ATM cards, and execute illegal transactions.

“During the operation, six mobile phones and the sum of one million, seven hundred thousand naira (₦1,700,000) were recovered from the suspects,” the statement noted.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the efforts of the investigating team for its professionalism and swift action.

CP Bakori urged Kano residents to remain vigilant and cautious of fraudsters who deceive innocent people into divulging sensitive personal details, including their BVN and NIN.

The Commissioner affirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, especially the financial security of all residents.
