Nation-Building Failure, Corruption Crippled Nigeria – Pat Utomi

...Laments Nigeria's Failure to Achieve $30,000 Per Capita

Political economy and management expert, Prof. Pat Utomi, has lamented that the failure of nation-building and corruption have crippled Nigeria.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Utomi noted that Nigerians can now see the report card of those who know better but feign neutrality, while those Fela Kuti called VIPs (Vagabonds in Power) made way for impunity.

“As a 26-year-old PhD returning home from the US, I imagined a $30,000 per capita Nigeria by my 60th but watched it hover around $1,000 as I turned 70.

“Nation building failure, crowding out of thinking people from the public space and disgraceful corruption had crippled a nation of promise,” he lamented.

However, he stated that the people can take their country back.

Commenting on the Osun governorship election, Utomi asserted that if the poll proved a point, it is that evil has an expiry date and that even the unworthy can be used to stop the train.

He argued that righteousness does indeed exalt a nation and its opposite is a reproach to any people.

Utomi pointed out that the biggest shame of the election was what he described as the “defecting” governors who left town under the cover of darkness like rain-drenched hens.

He added that judgement for betraying the people still awaits them.
