Nigerian Navy Intercepts 4,000 Litres of Suspected AGO in Lagos Waters

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has intercepted a fibre boat laden with about 4,000 litres of a product suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) within the Atlas Cove general area of Lagos State.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, 11 October 2025, was part of ongoing efforts by the Navy to combat economic sabotage and enhance maritime security across Lagos and its coastal communities.

The Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Paul Nimmyel who was represented by the Executive Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, said the interception was achieved through the effective use of the Nigerian Navy’s Maritime Domain Awareness facility, specifically the Western Regional Control Centre of the Falcon Eye Alignment.

The patrol team stationed at Tarkwa Bay identified and tracked the vessel before it was intercepted around the approaches to Commodore Pool. Upon sighting the patrol team, the suspects abandoned the boat and fled the scene.

Following the operation, the recovered product was handed over to the representative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, Superintendent Amoo Kehinde, for further action.

The interception aligns with the Strategic Directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, aimed at maintaining a credible presence along Lagos waterways and adjoining creeks to eliminate economic sabotage and maritime crimes.

NNS BEECROFT reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining surveillance, patrols, and intelligence-driven operations to ensure maritime safety and support socio-economic activities within its operational area.
