President Tinubu Lauds Wike for Accelerating Abuja’s Infrastructure Renewal

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid transformation of Abuja through the implementation of critical infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.
The President gave the commendation on Monday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated and expanded Karu road network in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), as part of the Day 14 project commissioning.
The commissioned project comprises the rehabilitated and expanded roads from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, including adjoining roads.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described the project as another significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to modernising the nation’s capital and delivering infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of Nigerians.
“We are gathered here once again in the historic and bustling hub of Karu to officially commission the newly rehabilitated and expanded roads from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, including other vital adjoining roads,” he said.
The President recalled that only a week earlier, his administration had commissioned a potable water supply project for Karu and neighbouring communities, noting that the latest road project further demonstrates the government’s resolve to provide essential infrastructure to underserved areas.
According to him, the rehabilitation and expansion of the Karu road corridor align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth and improved living standards.
Tinubu noted that the Karu corridor, a major gateway linking Abuja with neighbouring states, had for years suffered severe traffic congestion that affected productivity and reduced the quality of life for commuters.
“For years, the Karu corridor, serving as a critical gateway between the city and neighbouring states, suffered from severe traffic congestion that drained the productivity and energy of residents. By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” he remarked.
He stated that the project would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate persistent gridlock, improve road safety, and create a more conducive environment for businesses operating within the densely populated axis.
The President further highlighted the installation of modern solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, saying the initiative would improve visibility for motorists, enhance security, and reduce crime at night.
Tinubu attributed the ongoing physical transformation across the Federal Capital Territory to the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, whom he praised for his commitment to implementing the administration’s urban renewal agenda.
“The rapid physical transformation across Abuja could not have happened without the dogged, relentless, and focused supervision of the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. His aggressive implementation of our urban renewal master plan is visible for everyone to see,” he noted.
He also commended the minister for prioritising the development of high-density satellite communities alongside the city centre, describing the approach as a reflection of his administration’s philosophy that governance must deliver practical benefits to all residents regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Tinubu equally praised the contractor, Abdul Val Construction Company, for delivering the project on schedule and to a high standard, saying the company had demonstrated that indigenous firms are capable of executing infrastructure projects that meet international standards.
He urged residents of Karu to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting it from vandalism and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse that could obstruct drainage systems.
“This infrastructure is yours. Protect it from vandalism. Stop indiscriminate roadside dumping that clogs drainage systems, and let this road serve as a secure foundation for your commerce, safety, and long-term community pride,” the President urged.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering people-centred infrastructure projects across the country, stressing that sustainable development must reach the communities where Nigerians live, work and conduct their daily activities.
