The Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) have pledged to deepen their collaboration to promote public understanding of port operations and improve information dissemination.
The Head of Tariff and Billing at TCIPC, Dr Ubolur Julius, gave the assurance when MARCON executives visited the port to strengthen cooperation between both organisations.
Julius, who represented the Port Manager, Abubakar Sani Isa said the NPA recognises the critical role of maritime journalists in educating the public about port operations and is willing to collaborate with the organisation in areas of mutual interest.
He said the port maintains an open-door policy and encouraged maritime journalists to contact its officials whenever they require information about its activities.
“We welcome you not just as journalists but to understand the critical function you perform, particularly in educating the general public about port operations,” he said.
Also speaking, the President of MARCON, Ismail Aniemu said MARCON has maintained a cordial relationship with the NPA at both its headquarters and at the port level.
He said the visit was aimed at renewing engagement with the current management of Tin Can Island Port.
The MARCON president assured the NPA of the organisation’s commitment to objective reporting and the dissemination of accurate information about port activities.
“As journalists, for us, truth is sacred. We always give our support to disseminate information about your activities in an objective manner and in ways that promote our national interests,” he said.
Aniemu added that MARCON remains committed to cooperating with the management of TCIPC whenever necessary, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen an existing relationship rather than establish a new one.
