WIMA Nigeria President Hails Workers, Urges Greater Inclusion in Maritime Sector

The President of Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA) Nigeria, Mrs Theodora Nwaeze, has commended the resilience and contributions of Nigerian workers, particularly women in the maritime industry, as the nation marks Workers’ Day and the beginning of a new month.

In a statement released on Thursday, Nwaeze described the month of May as a period of renewed opportunities for growth, excellence and collective advancement across sectors.

She noted that Workers’ Day provides a moment to recognise the dedication and commitment of professionals whose efforts continue to drive economic growth and sustainability, especially within the maritime sector and the broader blue economy.

The WIMA Nigeria President paid special tribute to women in maritime, applauding their role in fostering inclusiveness, innovation and professionalism in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry.

According to her, “the professionalism, courage and determination of women in maritime continue to break barriers and set new standards of excellence,” adding that their contributions remain critical to the industry’s future.

Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to its core pillars of empowerment, innovation, collaboration and national visibility, Nwaeze said WIMA Nigeria would continue to provide platforms that support the growth of its members, strengthen partnerships and amplify the voices of women in the sector.

She urged stakeholders to embrace the new month with renewed focus, discipline and optimism, while encouraging stronger networks and collaboration to advance both the industry and society.
