
The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sought the support of traditional rulers in fighting criminal activities in the state.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant made the appeal on Thursday, April 3, while on familiarisation visit to the palace of His Majesty Pharm. Alex Uzo Onyido, the revered traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom in Idemili North LGA of Anambra.
This was made known in a statement issued by Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the Command.
In his address, Commandant Olatunde stressed the vital role traditional rulers play in achieving comprehensive national security in recognition of their influence and privileged positions.
Olatunde asserted that traditional rulers play a vital role in maintaining security within their communities, explaining that they are uniquely positioned to provide purposeful leadership in security management within their communities as custodians of indigenous customs and culture.
He expressed gratitude to Igwe OgidI and the community on behalf of Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for conceiving the idea of constructing a tactical outpost for the Civil Defence in Ogidi intended to purportedly foster relative peace and security within the community and its surrounding towns.
Olatunde emphasised that the NSCDC as the primary agency responsible for safeguarding critical national, state and local government assets and infrastructure, welcomes any form of support, collaboration, and cooperation to fulfill its mandate.
He called on the corps to mobilise their subjects to share valuable information to enhance prevention of crimes and criminality, thereby ensuring the safety of lives and property.
On his part, Igwe Alex Onyido welcomed the NSCDC team and its development, stating that he was much aware of the good work of the security agency in Anambra.
He assured the NSCDC of the palace support and cooperation in any developmental idea that will bring peace and progress to the community.
The Igwe further expressed commitment to expediting the construction of the NSCDC Tactical Outpost, with the goal of completing the project within six months, ensuring a timely handover to the security agency.
