Customs CG Adeniyi, AGF Ogunjimi Forge Partnership for Revenue Growth

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, have partnered to bolster Nigeria’s revenue generation.

The partnership was formed during a courtesy visit by AGF Ogunjimi and his delegation to Comptroller Adeniyi at the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday.

During their engagement, Adeniyi emphasised the critical role of the office of the Accountant-General in national revenue management, describing the visit as timely, symbolic, and significant in fostering fiscal collaboration between the two government institutions.

He noted that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) remains conscious of the country’s pressing economic challenges, particularly in the area of public revenue generation.

The Customs boss assured the AGF of the Service’s unwavering commitment to bridging fiscal gaps through strategic innovations and operational discipline.

“We have seen how critical revenue generation is in this country, and we are doing our best from our part. Looking at how the Service was able to increase its revenue by over 70% before the end of 2024, it is a demonstration of our resolve to support government’s financial stability,” he said.

He also congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment as the Accountant-General of the Federation and commended his proactive approach to inter-agency collaboration.

Responding to the AGF’s proposal to create a joint training initiative integrating staff from both organisations, Comptroller Adeniyi welcomed the idea and pledged the Service’s support towards its implementation.

On his part, Ogunjimi expressed gratitude to the NCS leadership for the warm reception, stating that he was delighted to witness Comptroller Adeniyi’s proactive and strategic leadership.

“This collaboration has just started, and I want to assure you that it is going to be robust. I also wish to request that we bring on board, some of your officers to our office to be engaged in trainings that will strengthen inter-agency understanding and cooperation,” the AGF remarked.

He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to strengthening institutional linkages that will promote accountability, transparency, and capacity building within the country’s public financial architecture.
