Anambra Central NDC Aspirant Nwabueze Oli Alleges Irregularities in Senatorial Primary Election

The Anambra Central Senatorial aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nwabueze Oli, has raised allegations of widespread irregularities in the party’s recent primary election, claiming that the exercise was marred by vote manipulation, intimidation, and procedural violations.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Oli described the conduct of the primary as “deeply flawed,” alleging that results were distorted through repeated counting of the same group of supporters and disruptions in voting processes in several areas.

He claimed that while Senator Victor Umeh reportedly had about 400 supporters counted in one instance, his own camp allegedly recorded between 5,000 and 6,000 supporters at the venue.

According to him, the counting process was repeated multiple times under unclear circumstances, raising concerns about the credibility of the exercise. He also alleged that in some locations, voting or counting processes were disrupted, preventing proper collation of results.

Oli said that although the official outcome of the primary has not yet been formally announced, his camp had gathered information suggesting that he may have won the contest across several local government areas. He, however, admitted that he does not yet have a complete official result sheet.

On the financial aspect of the process, Oli stated that aspirants were required to pay fees to the party, disclosing that he paid ₦20 million as a standard nomination and support fee, for which he said he has receipts.

Despite the allegations, he confirmed that he has not yet formally escalated his complaints to the party’s leadership but expects to do so once the leadership becomes available, adding that he has been assured of an opportunity to present his grievances.
