Ogun I Customs Seizes 2026 Range Rover, Rice, Petrol, Cannabis, Other Contraband Worth ₦2.4bn
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530, foreign parboiled rice, petroleum products, cannabis, pneumatic tyres and other contraband with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2.469 billion between August and September 2026.
The seizures, according to the Acting Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, include 1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3,893 parcels of cannabis indica weighing 1.878 tonnes, 428 pneumatic tyres, 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 24 bales of second-hand clothing, four sacks of used shoes and 500 litres of diesel.
Afeni disclosed this during a press briefing in Idiroko on Thursday, where he reviewed the operational achievements of the Command for the period under review.
He said the Command’s anti-smuggling operations, intelligence-led enforcement and enhanced collaboration with sister security agencies had yielded tangible results in tackling illicit trade and strengthening border security across Ogun State.
A major highlight of the seizures, he said, was the interception of a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530, valued at N417,011,982.
Afeni said the seizure demonstrated the Command’s commitment to enforcing customs laws and protecting the country’s economic interests.
He added that the Command had also intercepted substantial quantities of other prohibited and restricted goods through its sustained anti-smuggling operations along the border corridors.
The Acting Controller said the Command had maintained a firm balance between revenue generation and legitimate trade facilitation despite the prevailing economic challenges affecting land-border trade.
He said the Command generated revenue for the Federation Account through diligent duty collection, baggage assessment and physical examinations at designated border points.
According to him, the Command also optimised its import and export verification processes to facilitate compliant trade while maintaining regulatory oversight on sensitive goods, including mica stone, CNG, white talc and crushed thermal coal.
As part of its inter-agency collaboration, the Command handed over 3,893 parcels of cannabis sativa seized during the period to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, for further investigation.
Afeni said the Command has strengthened operational cooperation with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA and environmental management agencies to tackle cross-border crimes.
He said the Command has also sustained engagements with traditional rulers, youth leaders and border community associations to build mutual trust and reduce hostility during enforcement operations.
On community and environmental initiatives, Afeni said the Command’s responsibilities extended beyond customs enforcement to supporting community development and environmental stewardship.
He mentioned that the Command participated in inter-command athletic competitions in August and September, emerging as champions in volleyball.
The Acting Controller attributed the Command’s achievements to the dedication of its officers and men, as well as the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, and the NCS management team.
He commended the host communities, traditional rulers and media partners for their cooperation and support, while warning smugglers and other perpetrators of economic sabotage that the Command would continue to intensify enforcement against uncustomed goods and illicit trade.
