Tinubu’s Government A Failure, Says Kenneth Okonkwo
…Urges Nigerians to Pray for Atiku to Rescue Country
The spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has described the administration of President Bola Tinubu as a failure, while urging Nigerians to pray for Atiku Abubakar to rescue the country.
Okonkwo made the remarks on the heels of President Tinubu’s return from his “working vacation” during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
He criticised the Tinubu administration over its handling of the economy, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, borrowing, and what he described as the failure to provide corresponding infrastructure and relief for Nigerians.
Okonkwo stated that the government removed the subsidy but had not delivered the public infrastructure Nigerians were promised.
“Now, this president removed subsidy completely. He’s not giving us public infrastructure. No power, no good roads, no electricity, no energy,” he decried.
Okonkwo also faulted the administration’s borrowing, arguing that the loans being proposed or obtained were not sufficiently tied to productive activities.
“Everything just mentioned there is consumption. Not productivity,” he said.
He further criticised the government’s handling of the economy, disputing claims that the country’s economic indicators were improving.
“Inflation is not coming down at all,” Okonkwo said, while arguing that Nigerians were still experiencing rising prices and hardship.
The campaign spokesperson also questioned the transparency surrounding President Tinubu’s “absence from Nigeria”, saying Nigerians deserved information about the President’s condition and activities.
“What we want to see is our President and we want to have absolute information about the state of the President,” he remarked.
Okonkwo further rejected the description of the President’s absence as a “working vacation,” arguing that vacation and official work were different concepts.
He also criticised the administration over the proposed World Bank facilities, questioning whether the funds would produce tangible benefits for Nigerians.
According to him, the country was already experiencing severe poverty and hardship, despite previous interventions and financing.
Okonkwo urged Nigerians to pray for Atiku Abubakar to rescue the country, describing him as an alternative to the Tinubu administration.
He stressed that an Atiku administration, if elected, would pursue policies aimed at making life more affordable for Nigerians, including a return to fuel subsidy.
He further called on Nigerians to reject Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying, “Nigeria should treat him as absent and vote him out.”
