The Murtala Muhammed Area (MMA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated ₦180,750,786,844.36K as revenue and made seizures worth ₦10,511,889,799 in year 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the MMA Command, CSC VU Ogagbor on the Command’s scorecard for 2024 on Tuesday.
The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Micheal Toyin Awe noted that the Command surpassed its 2023 revenue with ₦90,324,601,397.35, representing 99.89% increase.
Comptroller Awe also revealed that the Command exceeded its 2024 target which stood at ₦179,739,241,526.36 with ₦1,011,545,282.00, indicating 0.56 increase.
He said that the feat demonstrates the command’s commitment to excellence and constant dedication to enforcing government fiscal policies.
On the anti-smuggling activities of 2024, he mentioned that the command made significant seizures in its relentless pursuit of safeguarding the nation and protecting its citizens against illicit trade.
The seizures include: 21 packages of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, 50 round 9mm Live Ammunition, 54 packages of Military Hardware, 46 packages of Dried Sea Cucumber, 3 packages of Dried Donkey Male Genitals and 55 pieces of Jojef Tomahawk Semi-Automatic Rifle.
Others are 50 packages of Dried Canadian Cannabis, 225 pieces of Drones, 250 pieces of turtles, 1 package of pangolin skin and 1 package of porcupine, thorns, mineral stones.
“These seized items have a cumulative Duty-Paid Value (DPV) of Ten Billion, Five Hundred and Eleven Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Nine Naira Only (N10,511,889,799). These seizures are a testament to the Command’s keen commitment to enforcing Customs laws and regulations,” he said.
Speaking on stakeholders’ engagement, the Comptroller explained that the command maintained an open-door policy, engaging with stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media to resolve issues of common interest.
“This synergy has been instrumental in our success, and we appreciate the support and cooperation we have received from our stakeholders,” he remarked.
He assured that moving forward, the command will continue to innovate, strategise and block loopholes to ensure it meet its revenue targets, and remain committed to facilitating trade while enforcing Customs laws, regulations and upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team for their support and encouragement.
Comptroller Awe also commended the hard work and dedication of the officers who have made the achievements possible.
He equally applauded the stakeholders and sister agencies for their cooperation and compliance to extant laws, and the media for their continuous support and partnership in disseminating accurate information.
The MMA Customs boss further prayed for a better year, stating that it will be filled with new opportunities and great successes for everyone.
He expressed confidence that with the continued support of the stakeholders and the dedication of the officers, the command will achieve even greater heights this year and beyond.
