Atiku Lauds Military Over Rescue of 360 Kidnap Victims in Borno

...Calls for Security Overhaul

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended the military and other security agencies following the rescue of 360 abducted victims in Borno State.

The Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Haruna Sani, announced in a statement that troops of OPHK rescued the 360 abductees from the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) enclave in the Mandara Mountains area of southern Borno State.

Sani disclosed that the operation involved Special Forces and troops of Sector 1.

Reacting to the reported rescue, Atiku expressed delight, noting that while the development has brought an end to the ordeal of the abductees and the anguish of their loved ones following their abduction in March, Nigeria still faces threats from terrorism and banditry.

“I acknowledge the role of the military and all other security agencies that were involved in the safe rescue of the Ngoshe abductees. I am confident that if provided with the necessary tools and much-needed political leadership, the military will bring to an end the nearly two decades of insurgency,” he said.

While celebrating the rescue of the victims, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election urged the government and the military to intensify efforts to rescue nearly 100 schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State, as well as all other Nigerians still being held by terrorists and bandits.

Atiku also called for a rejig of Nigeria’s security architecture that places emphasis on intelligence, technology, and preemptive actions that nip terrorist and banditry attacks in the bud before they are carried out.
