The Federal Government (FG) has increased the feeding allowance for Nigerian prison inmates by 50% across all the correctional centres in the country.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this when he hosted newsmen for a media chat on the activities of the Ministry and other agencies under the Ministry, including the Civil Defence and Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
Others are the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Mr. Tunji-Ojo stated that in the FFS, the ministry will expedite action to see that the bill before the National Assembly is passed, thereby propelling the fire service to serve as a regulator, enumerator, and operator.
During his presentation, the Minister announced that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) has graciously increased inmates feeding allowance by 50% to fulfil his Renewed Hope pledge even to inmates in Correctional Centres across the country.”
On plans for the NSCDC, he noted that the ministry will leverage technology to enhance its operations while empowering the officers, especially those in the Special Intelligence Guard, Safe School Initiative, Female Squad, and Mining Marshal.
“I am happy to see us launch the centralisation of passport production in the country, as well as the expansion of contactless biometric solution beyond Canada. In 2025, our reforms will continue, as well as, see new directions across board,” Minister Tunji-Ojo further said.
