APC Waives Screening Requirement, Grants Tinubu Automatic Clearance for Presidential Primaries

Ahead of the upcoming presidential primaries, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirement for President Bola Tinubu.
The APC NWC reached this decision at its 188th meeting held on Wednesday, stating that President Tinubu is deemed to have been duly screened in accordance with the party’s constitution for the purpose of participating in the primaries.
According to a statement signed by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the decision was made pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the party’s constitution to organise and supervise primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers in the best interest of the party.
The NWC noted that the President has received overwhelming endorsement and a vote of confidence from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum, the leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other party organs at the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, as well as at other statutory events.
It added that, as the incumbent President and leader of the APC, and having been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant and unnecessary.
