Pan-African airline, ASKY, is set to strengthen trade, tourism and cultural ties between Nigeria and Niger with the launch of a new air service linking Kano and Niamey from September 2, 2026.
The new service will make Kano the 31st destination on ASKY’s expanding network, which currently connects more than 30 cities across 28 African countries.
According to the airline, the Kano-Niamey service will be routed through its hub in Lomé, Togo, providing passengers travelling to and from Kano with onward connections to major business and leisure destinations across West and Central Africa.
The new route is also expected to revive an historic commercial corridor that has connected Kano and the wider region for more than a thousand years.
Kano has historically served as a major commercial centre and an important hub of the pre-colonial trans-Saharan trade routes, linking present-day Nigeria with markets in North Africa, including Morocco and Egypt.
ASKY said the new air link would facilitate faster movement of people and goods between Nigeria and Niger while supporting the growth of trade, tourism and regional mobility.
The airline added that the service would further reinforce the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries by providing a modern aviation link along a route with deep historical and commercial significance.
With the introduction of the Kano service, ASKY said it would continue to advance its mission of connecting African cities, promoting regional integration and facilitating economic and cultural exchange across the continent.
