Customs Management Celebrates CGC Adeniyi’s WCO Reappointment, Tenure Extension

The officers and management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have celebrated Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi following his reappointment as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council and the six-month extension of his tenure as Customs boss.
ThelensNG reports that President Bola Tinubu extended CGC Adeniyi’s tenure as Comptroller-General of the NCS by six months on June 19, saying the decision was aimed at consolidating the implementation of the National Single Window (NSW) and ensuring an orderly succession in the Service.

On June 29, Adeniyi was warmly received by officers of the NCS at its headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his return from Brussels.
The reception followed his landmark performance at the 147th and 148th WCO Council Sessions, where his tenure as Chairperson was officially renewed for another year in recognition of his exemplary leadership and commitment to global customs administration.

While welcoming the CGC, members of the management team also congratulated him on the six-month extension of his appointment by President Tinubu and presented him with a souvenir in appreciation of his exemplary leadership and contributions to the growth and transformation of the NCS.
Responding, CGC Adeniyi thanked the management team for their unwavering support, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and shared commitment within the Service.
He disclosed that he travelled to Brussels expecting to hand over the chairmanship of the WCO Council but was instead entrusted with another one-year mandate by members of the Council.
“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.
The developments highlight the confidence reposed in Adeniyi’s leadership and are expected to further advance the Service’s reform agenda, strengthen international partnerships, and enhance trade facilitation efforts.
