Kano Police Arrest 98 Suspects for Abduction, Armed Robbery, Other Crimes

The Kano State Police Command has announced remarkable successes in its fight against crime in the state, with the arrest of 98 suspects for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and thuggery.

The Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing on the security situation and the Command’s recent achievements in crime fighting, held at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

In his address, CP Bakori expressed gratitude to the media and other stakeholders for their continuous support and partnership in the collective effort to ensure safety and security in the state.

“In this early second half of the year 2025 (i.e. 3rd Quarter of the Year), the dynamic security situation of the State was carefully studied and demographically analyzed. Consequently, the Command has now strategically launched a Special Operation, tagged “Operation Kukan Kura” which symbolizes adherence to the co-ethics of community policing where members of the public participate actively in policing activities, including information sharing, crime prevention, management and control.

“This is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM to all Police Commands and Formations on community-centric policing and strategy to dominate the public space against all forms of crimes and criminality.

“The objective of this Special Operation is to act as a radar to detect and proactively nip in the bud any threats of thuggery-related crimes within Kano Metropolis, banditry and kidnapping along Kano borders, drug trafficking and abuse as well as other social vices in the State,” he said.

According to him, significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on July 1, 2025, revealing that since the Command’s last press release on June 16, 2025 (within 24 days), a total of 98 suspects have been arrested in connection with 21 major cases, including armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), drug dealing, theft, and fraud, among others.

He highlighted the arrests made, including 4 suspected kidnappers, 21 suspected armed robbers, 5 suspected drug dealers, 12 suspected motor vehicle thieves, 4 suspected fraudsters, 5 suspected thieves, and 47 suspected thugs.

The CP also pointed out the various items recovered, including 6 motor vehicles, 8 tricycles, 10 motorcycles, 42 tubes of red solutions, 35 parcels (1,123 wraps of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa), and 86 bottles of “suck and die.”

Other items recovered include 30 sachets and 43 pieces of Exol tablets, 10 sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam tablets, 16 cutlasses, 98 knives, counterfeit US ($10,000), 13 mobile phones, 5 motor batteries, and 3 motor spare tyres.

Speaking further, Bakori noted that the newly launched “Operation Kukan Kura” has been integrated into several robust operational strategies earlier adopted by the Command, which have significantly impacted crime reduction in the state.

He highlighted these strategies, including intelligence-led raid operations, visibility patrols, strengthened synergy with other security agencies, strategic communication, and robust community policing engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, members of the press, youth groups, NGOs, CSOs, community members, and other key stakeholders.

CP Bakori expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and assured that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state.

He urged residents to continue reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following emergency contact numbers: 08032419745, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
