Presidential aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has donated ₦25 million to the University on the Niger in Umunya, Anambra State, to support scholarships and development of the institution.

Obi made the donation during a visit to the institution on Thursday, reiterating his commitment to supporting critical areas of development, including education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

Disclosing the donation on X (formerly Twitter), he noted that the university, which was established five years ago, has continued to make remarkable progress and that he has made it a point to visit every year to support the good work being done there.

Obi encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their studies, reminding them that today’s world is driven by knowledge while stating that the future of Nigeria rests in the hands of young people.

“In support of scholarships and educational development, I made a donation of 25 million naira for the development of the institution,” he said.

He commended the Diocese on the Niger for its foresight, vision, and steadfast commitment to educational and institutional growth.

Obi also expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, for his dedication to education, stressing that his commitment is reflected in the many schools and institutions he continues to support and strengthen.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the growth of education and the development of students in Nigeria, emphasising that no nation can rise beyond the strength of its education and human capital.
