The Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of General Employers of Morocco (CGEM) to collaborate on improving the key sectors of the state’s economy.
The sectors include power generation and distribution, education, housing, infrastructure, and port development.
Mr. Abiodun noted that the partnership will allow his government to leverage Morocco’s advancements in technology, manufacturing, and renewable energy to drive growth in Ogun.
“Morocco has excelled in hydro, solar, and gas energy, and we aim to learn from their expertise to optimize our Light Up Ogun Project, which requires up to 7,000 megawatts to meet industrial demand. In agriculture, Morocco leads in fertilizer production, and we are working to attract their planned fertilizer plant to Ogun State to support our agribusiness sector.
“As an industrial hub, we are keen to collaborate with Moroccan companies to develop manufacturing, the automobile industry, and technology-driven solutions. Our Special Economic Zone at the Gateway International Airport will serve as a Free Trade Zone, creating opportunities for investment and technology transfer,” he said.
Governor Abiodun asserted that infrastructure development remains a priority – and revealed that his administration is working on extending the Lagos Blue Line into Ogun State and developing the Olokola Deep Seaport, describing it as a key project that will enhance trade.
He affirmed that he will continue expanding the housing sector in the state with the aim to transform towns into smart cities.
The Governor mentioned that the partnership extends to education, particularly technical and vocational training, to equip Ogun youths with skills that will drive economic growth.
“With Morocco’s expertise and commitment, we look forward to a future of shared prosperity and development,” he further stated.
