Shehu Sani Backs JAMB’s UTME Exemption for Education Candidates, Says It’ll Boost Teaching Profession

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has expressed support for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s decision to exempt candidates seeking admission into Education programmes and non-engineering Agriculture courses from writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

ThelensNG reports that JAMB established this benchmark alongside the minimum cut-off marks for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across the country, with those for universities and Colleges of Nursing set at 150, while polytechnics were pegged at 100.

Following JAMB’s announcement, many Nigerians expressed concern over the decisions, arguing that the UTME exemption for Education candidates would have a ripple effect on the teaching profession and that the cut-off marks would reduce the quality of graduates.

However, Sani described the UTME exemption as a commendable decision, asserting that it would boost the teaching profession and enhance Nigeria’s education system.

“Exempting students seeking to study Education and Agriculture from taking the UTME is a rightful and commendable decision,” he said.

He added: “It will boost the teaching profession, improve the quality of our educational system, and encourage young people into modern agriculture.”
