WISTA Nigeria Re-elects Ani, Unveils New Executive Committee, Sets Strategic Agenda

The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Nigeria has re-elected its President, Dr. Odunayo Ani, at its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), reinforcing the association’s commitment to strong governance and strategic growth within the maritime sector.
The AGM, held on April 30 in Lagos, brought together members and key stakeholders across the maritime and logistics value chain to review the association’s performance and set priorities for the future.
Dr. Ani, who also serves as Director of Finance at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, was returned alongside a newly elected executive committee.
Her re-election, according to members, reflects widespread confidence in her leadership following what has been described as a productive first tenure marked by institutional growth, stronger partnerships and improved global visibility.
Proceedings at the AGM also focused on financial accountability, as members reviewed and adopted the association’s financial reports, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and prudent management.
In her address, the President highlighted achievements recorded during her first term, including enhanced collaboration with WISTA International, increased participation of Nigerian members in global committees, sustained advocacy for women in coastal communities and the successful celebration of the association’s 30th anniversary.
The newly elected executive committee includes Captain Edidiong Akpanebe-Sola Obalo as Vice President; Lillian Nneji as General Secretary; Hannah Adaba as Treasurer; Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike as Public Relations Officer; Toyin Oyeleke as Assistant General Secretary; and Aisha Cole as Assistant Treasurer.
Looking ahead, Dr. Ani outlined plans to host the 8th WISTA Africa Regional Conference scheduled for June 25–26, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites. The conference is expected to attract maritime stakeholders from across the continent to deliberate on policy, innovation and the role of women in the industry.
“We are deeply honoured by the trust reposed in us,” Dr. Ani stated. “Our priority remains to elevate the role of women in the maritime industry while strengthening WISTA Nigeria as a platform for professional excellence, collaboration, and impact.”
The AGM reaffirmed WISTA Nigeria’s position as a leading voice for women in the maritime sector, anchored on leadership, accountability and a clear strategic direction.
