
The Federal Government (FG) has announced plans to create ‘Renewed Hope Cultural Villages’ across the country to uphold Nigeria’s cultural values, improve tourism and economic development.
Abiola Abdulkareem, Special Assistant to the Minister of Art, Culture, and Tourism, Hannatu Musa Musawa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday.
Abdulkareem revealed that the initiative has been approved by the National Economic Council (NEC).
He noted that it will be implemented in collaboration with state governments to remodel historic sites into creative hubs and stimulate job creation in the arts and entertainment sectors.
His words: “The project’s success relies on the active participation of state governments, local communities, and stakeholders. By working together, Nigeria can unlock the transformative power of its arts, culture, tourism and creative industries for sustainable development and social cohesion.”
According to him, the development will focus on restoring and conserving historic sites, monuments, palaces, and artefacts as well as improving cultural education and capacity building in local crafts.
The Minister’s aide stressed that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to generate thousands of jobs and increase revenue through tourism and creative ventures.
He reiterated Minister Musawa’s commitment to boosting Nigeria’s economy through innovative programs and policies by strengthening partnerships in the creative industry.
“This initiative will not only promote Nigeria’s creative sector but also contribute significantly to economic diversification and national development,” he added.
