Kano: Suspect Surrenders to Police, Confesses to Multiple Killings, Phone, Motorcycle Theft 



A suspected serial killer identified as Umar Auwal (aka Abba Dujal’) has surrendered to the Kano State Police Command, confessing to multiple killings in the state and its environs.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, who made this known in a statement on Tuesday, noted that Auwal, 20, a resident of Wudil Local Government Area of Kano also confessed to stealing phones of different brands and motorcycle.

“This development follows sustained clearance raid operations conducted by the Command at strategic locations in the State to rid it of criminal elements and ensure protection of life and property of citizens.

“Umar Auwal has confessed his involvements in different cases of culpable homicide, armed robbery, motorcycle and phone snatching in different parts of the State and Jigawa State, with the following details: At Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano – He confessed to have stabbed one ‘Boka’ to death and stole his Infinix Hot 40i mobile phone, which he sold for ₦40,000.

“At Kurna Quarters, Kano – Umar also confessed to stabbing another person to death and stealing his Samsung S26 phone, which he sold for ₦160,000. In Jigawa State – He confessed to killing a man in Ringim LGA, Jigawa State, and stealing his motorcycle, which he sold for ₦300,000,” Kiyawa disclosed.

He revealed that the suspect is currently in custody at the Command’s Homicide Section, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for detailed investigation into the veracity of his confessions and further necessary actions.

Reacting to the development, Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori expressed gratitude to Auwal for surrendering to the security agency and urged others involved in similar crimes to follow suit.

While reiterating the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property of all inhabitants in the state, CP Bakori affirmed that criminals will have no hiding place in Kano.

“They should therefore, repent and surrender, as no stone will be left unturned in curtailing criminal activities in the state,” he warned.
