Obidient Movement Urges Unity, Reaffirms Support for Obi, Kwankwaso

The Obidient Movement has called on its members and supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora to remain united and focused on the 2027 general election amid concerns arising from the recent primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The call follows widespread reactions to the conduct of the party’s nationwide primaries, which left some aspirants dissatisfied, as well as the appointment of Peter Obi’s critic, Agada Abuh Theophilus, as Director of New Media and Strategic Communications of the NDC, alongside Brian Dennis as Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications.

In a statement signed on Thursday by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the movement acknowledged the concerns and sentiments expressed by members, particularly aspirants who participated in the primaries and supporters who have raised questions about recent developments within the party.

Tanko noted that the movement had listened to the concerns of its members and remained committed to preserving unity while addressing grievances through dialogue and reconciliation.

“We see the widespread concerns, reactions, and sentiments expressed by members of the movement, especially members who were aspirants of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and our teeming supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora regarding the conduct of the party’s recent nationwide primaries,” the statement reads in part.

The movement reaffirmed its support for the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing both leaders as individuals of proven character and competence whose vision for Nigeria continues to inspire millions of supporters.

“We reaffirm, without reservation or equivocation, our overwhelming and unshakeable support for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, and His Excellency, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” Tanko stated.

According to the movement, the challenges arising from the primaries should not distract members from the broader objective of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election.

While acknowledging that the primaries were not without difficulties, the group emphasised that every aspirant and stakeholder deserved fairness and respect. It assured aggrieved members that consultations were ongoing at the highest levels to address concerns and strengthen internal cohesion.

“We therefore assure all aggrieved parties that active and sincere consultations are underway at the highest levels of the movement to address these concerns, heal these wounds, and restore the sense of brotherhood and sisterhood that defines who we are.”

The movement also appealed to dissatisfied members to exercise patience and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within its ranks.

Tanko stressed the need for restraint and urged supporters to emulate Obi’s values of peace, discipline, civility and issue-based engagement, warning that internal conflicts could weaken the movement ahead of the next election cycle.

“We can disagree without destroying one another. We can raise concerns without creating chaos. We can defend our principles without burning the bridges we will need to cross together on the road to 2027,” he said.

The Obidient Movement further urged members to channel their energy towards grassroots mobilisation, voter education, organisational strengthening and expanding support for its political agenda across the country.

The group reiterated its commitment to resolving internal disagreements and expressed confidence that it would emerge stronger and more united from the current challenges.

“Lower the temperature. Preserve the relationships. Protect the movement. And above all, keep your eyes on the mission,” the statement added.
