British Oasis Academy, Abuja, a British-style co-educational secondary school, has appointed William Stephen Pope as its new principal.
Pope, a South African national of Dutch, Irish, and Scottish ancestry, brings more than 45 years of experience in education across South Africa and Nigeria.
His career has spanned roles as a classroom teacher, curriculum developer, and school administrator, with experience in student and staff management, staff welfare and development, marketing, research and curriculum development.
In Nigeria, Pope has worked in Abeokuta, Lagos, and Abuja, where he has held senior positions at schools including Grange Schools, Nobelhouse and KIA Lakeside Academy.
He has assumed his new position at British Oasis Academy.
Pope is expected to lead efforts to reorganise and reposition the academy, with a focus on academic excellence, discipline, sports development, civic responsibility and leadership training.
He will also oversee the introduction of the school’s early years programmes, including nursery and primary sections, scheduled to begin in September.
Established 12 years ago, the Abuja-based academy offers boarding and day-school programmes and has classrooms, laboratories, hostels, medical facilities, as well as sporting and recreational amenities. Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session are currently ongoing.
