Anambra: NAFDAC Introduces Consumer Safety Club in Schools

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has unveiled the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) as part of efforts to tackle drug abuse in schools across Anambra State.

The Director-General (DG) of the NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye who was represented by the State’s Coordinator, Pharm Louis Madubuattah inaugurated the NCSC at Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Awka on Wednesday.

In her remarks, Mrs. Adeyeye called on the youths and adolescents in the state to resist the temptation of drug abuse and embrace positive values for a healthier future.

She emphasised that the initiative is part of the regulatory body’s strategy to combat drug abuse and fake products by educating and empowering young students.

The NAFDAC boss urged the students to serve as agents of change by sharing accurate information about the agency’s regulatory activities and promoting healthy living.

“Our mission is to mould a future generation empowered to be upright and demand uprightness from others.

“The re-establishment of NCSC in secondary schools is expected to foster collaboration between teachers and students to “Catch Them Young” and prevent lives of addiction,” she said.

The DG warned the students about the dangers of drug abuse, highlighting its impacts, including drug dependence, poor judgment, and mental health disorders.

She also noted that 14.3 million Nigerians suffer from drug abuse, describing it as a “growing public health concern”.
