MWUN Elects New Executives Across Port Districts 

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has elected new executives across the Port Districts, including Delta Port and Julius Berger Districts in Delta State, following a successful election conducted under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi.

The election also covered the Calabar, FLT, and FOT Districts; INTELS and OMT Districts (Port Harcourt Districts I and II); as well as the Bonny District and the Central Pool District in Calabar and Port Harcourt respectively.

The principal elected executives for the Delta Port District are Comrade Gabriel Koma as Chairman; Charles Avwata as Vice-Chairman; Paul Bolomu as Secretary; Monday Aiyanyor as Assistant Secretary; and Laju Atune as Treasurer. Others are Julius Norah as Special Female Representative; Sunday Sesi as NEC member; along with other appointed officers totalling 24.

Elected executives for Julius Berger District include Comrade Samson Pere as Chairman; Edemayibo Ormireju as Vice-Chairman; Kenneth Atagan as Secretary; Jude Abilabor as Assistant Secretary; and Orugboh Edonmi as Treasurer. Others are Anuchie Collins as NEC member; Ebuwa Isibor as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 13.

Calabar District elected Comrade Maurice Edet as Chairman; Uweh Ekpo as Vice Chairman; Joseph Rkpe as Secretary; Bassey Ekpeyong as Assistant Secretary; Akpan Joshua as Treasurer; Bassey Asuquo Etim as NEC member; Margaret Ebiti Peter as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 15.

Similarly, Central Pool District elected Comrade John Ebobo as Chairman; Amoo Bobola as Vice Chairman; Aniete Akpan as Secretary; Cyril Akpan as Assistant Secretary; Godwin Acha as Treasurer; Stephen Dad as NEC member; Janet Okoro as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 18.

Comrade Friday Ajilo as Chairman; Asitonka Tende as Vice Chairman; Gershon Abraham as Secretary; Patrick Chinda as Assistant Secretary; Zobari Nnodee as Treasurer; Lawrence Kalaiyo as NEC member; Alou Ochu as Special Female Representative were elected in the FLT District along with other appointed members totalling 17.

FOT District elected Comrade Adams Majesty as Chairman; Jackson Osarobey as Vice Chairman; Dokuboye Bob Manuel as Secretary; Osarobey David as Assistant Secretary; Timothy Egele as Treasurer; Prince David as NEC member; Modesta Uzoagba as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 16.

In the OMT District, Comrade Anyomi Joseph was elected as Chairman; Fyne Anabs as Vice Chairman; Gift Iwaritaribi as Secretary; Timothy Egele as Assistant Secretary; Cletus Enyia as Treasurer; Monday Penury as NEC member; Blessing Nwankwo as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 14.

The INTELS District elected Ohaka Nwabueze as Chairman; Timothy Inetianbor as Vice Chairman; Freddie Jack as Secretary; Iheanyichukwu Emmanuel as Assistant Secretary; Offong Amanam as Treasurer; Daniel Akpiri as NEC member; Pearl Owatogbe Egbe as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 12.

Port Harcourt District One voted Comrade Gwuene Nkabono as Chairman; Chukwudi Asoguh as Vice Chairman; Abdulmalik Haruna as Secretary; Tamunokuro Dagogo as Assistant Secretary; Iminabo Amachree as Treasurer; Tajudeen Owolabi as NEC member; Beatrice Ifeanyi as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 16.

In the same vein, Port Harcourt District Two elected Comrade Ebitenga Soye Perri as Chairman; Tonye Phillips as Vice Chairman; Oyika Amos as Secretary; Abiye Dokubo as Assistant Secretary; Minabiye Dauphin as Treasurer; Isaac Evinson as NEC member; Precious Oghu as Special Female Representative; along with other appointed members totalling 16.

The Bonny District elected Comrade Daddy Weeks as Chairman; Dappa Ajaladeg as Vice Chairman; Alex Onwuka as Secretary; Ekandem Michael Virtus as Assistant Secretary; Cunningham Green as Treasurer; Beauty Don Pedro as Special Female Representative; Ezekiel Thomas as NEC member; along with other appointed members totalling 13.

Speaking on the elections, the President-General of the Union, Comrade Bunu, congratulated all the elected executives and appointed officers across the various districts.

He urged the officers to maintain good conduct in the discharge of their official duties, reminding them that the era of double standards within the Union had elapsed.

Bunu advised all elected and appointed officials, as well as members, to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Union’s constitution to avoid sanctions.

He also assured the newly elected officials of the Union’s full support in all ramifications, reiterating that he would not hesitate to deal decisively with any erring individuals found wanting.

The MWUN President-General thanked all the executives of the Dockworkers Branch, particularly its articulate President, Comrade Agboola Bolaji, whose comportment throughout the election process was commendable.

Comrade Bunu further assured that the remaining district elections would follow the same transparent process, emphasising that no contesting member would be shortchanged in any form or guise. He added that the newly elected executives must assume office immediately after being duly sworn in.

The newly elected district executives, in turn, thanked Comrade Bunu and the leadership of the Union for their openness, fairness, and sense of justice throughout the election process.

They commended the President-General for his uprightness and straightforwardness in the conduct of the elections and appointments, assuring him that they would not disappoint in their respective roles.
