The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has started investigation on runway attack involving Aerocontractors Airlines.
An aircraft owned by Aerocontractors Airlines crashlanded at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja earlier this morning.
NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. James Odaudu in a statement confirmed the incident, adding that investigation is ongoing.
“The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, has been notified and has commenced investigation into a serious incident involving a Boeing 733 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ belonging to Aerocontractors Airlines, which occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023.
“The aircraft upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway,” the statement reads in part.
NSIB said there was no death recorded in the course of the accident, and urged members of the public to help with vital information that can help in the process of investigation.
“Consequently, the runway was closed pending the towing of the aircraft from the runway. There was no injury or fatality. The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.”

Meanwhile, the NSIB appealed to the general public and press to respect the privacy of the people on board – and not assume the cause of the serious incident until investigation is concluded.
In the same vein, the Bureau revealed that the preliminary report of the incident will be out very soon.
The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence.
