The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to St. Martin’s Orphanage and Home for the Lonely Adults in Igbo-Ukwu, Anambra State.
Obi made the donation when he visited the home on Monday, explaining that it is a continuation of his sacrifice and determination to contribute to critical areas of development and deep concern for the less privileged in the society, particularly in the spirit of the season (Easter).
He described the orphanage as a profoundly impactful institution under the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia.
“I was deeply moved by the selfless service being rendered to some of the most vulnerable members of our society – orphaned children and elderly individuals who have no one to care for them.
“As a token of support and encouragement, I made a donation of ₦10 million to assist in the running and sustenance of the home. This is but a modest contribution to a cause that embodies love, compassion, and service to humanity,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State Governor thanked the Diocese, under the leadership of Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, for their commitment to human dignity and the common good, stressing that their work is a shining example of the Church’s mission in action.
He assured them of his continued closeness and support, and urged well-meaning individuals to remember such homes in their charitable efforts.
“May we never forget that a society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable,” the politician added.
